2019 GOMW MIPAA YOUNG PR PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR: Camilla Scanes, Audi UK

Camilla Scanes, Media Relations Manager at Audi UK, has been named as the winner of the first GOMW MIPAA Young PR Professional of the Year Award.

She was presented with with a trophy and a cash price of £500 by Guild Chairman, Richard Aucock. Camilla was also invited by MIPAA Chair, Mark Harrison, on behalf of the MIPAA Board of Directors to be the association’s Young PR Professional Ambassador for 2020.

Four finalists were invited to the Guild of Motoring Writers annual dinner, where the winner was announced from a longlist of ten impressive candidates: (in alphabetical order):

  • WINNER: CAMILLA SCANES, AUDI UK
  • Shortlist finalist: Emma Gaffney, PSA
  • Shortlist finalist: Alex Henderson
  • Shortlist finalist: Tom Lynch, Volkswagen UK
  • Longlist candidate: Moyosola Fujamade, Kia Motors UK
  • Longlist candidate: Jessica Grimditch, Suzuki
  • Longlist candidate: Kate Harper, Prova PR
  • Longlist candidate: Ben Lewis, Influence Associates
  • Longlist candidate: Lauren Martin, Kia Motors UK
  • Longlist candidate: Henry Willis, Torque Agency PR

All finalists received a certificate of merit.

The new award, created to mark 75 years of the Guild of Motoring Writers and 50 years of the Motor Industry Public Affairs Association, recognises the finest young PR and communications professionals in the UK automotive industry.

To be eligible for the award, candidates were required to be aged 30 or younger at 31 December 2019, and either a member of MIPAA, or have a proposer who is.

All entrants were required to have at least 12 months’ experience as an independent practitioner, or be employed either in-house or by a consultancy. To enter, candidates were asked to submit written entries outlining three criteria: performance, professionalism and practice. The winning candidate will be decided following a series of one-to-one interviews.

Guild Chairman, Richard Aucock, praised the longlist candidates saying: “The standard of the entries has been impressive – the automotive PR industry should be proud of the new talent it is encouraging.

“The Guild is 75 years old in 2019, and MIPAA celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, We felt the finest joint birthday present would be a new award recognising the most promising young talent amongst our colleagues in the PR industry.

“We already have several awards celebrating upcoming talent in journalism and I look forward to the first winner of this award joining them on stage at our annual event in December.”

Details of the 2020 Young PR Professionals Award will be published on this site in the Autumn.
